only
180 million years
later were the first suns
lit in cold hydrogen and
dark matter cloaked
in the shadows
of a universe
hardly
begun
only
a hint of radio
from the beginning
a broadcast impression
hydrogen’s brief imago
fluttering to an end
only
creating
the stuff of stars
stuff of our skin and bone
and half the unknown
universe driven back
to deeper
black
