If you break a wine glass
and don't offer to replace it
does it show a lack of class?
And when one's in-laws
insist on you paying
do they clutch at straws?
Some say that it's crass
to demand compensation
and they should let it pass.
Others argue that since
it was quite expensive
pardon doesn't convince.
And recompense is hard
as the owner demands
cash or credit card.
But the culprit's spouse
may be forced to consider
re-mortgaging the house.
