It’s what made a derelict stone wall

beside the A487 a history lesson

in red and white. Two words scrawled

as elegy and warning: Cofiwch Dryweryn.

Deface it with your paint, your hammers.

attempt to erase from sons and daughters

our history. And we gather:

a storm to unmuddy your waters.

Of the ‘northern lights:’

No velure head-hunter need apply.

No Moulin Rouge mudslinger.

No tyrannous protoplasm

Batting an evil eye...

Lucidity epitomises

The cold ground’s

Imminent banter:

“Where man ends  +

The flame begins.”

And we will never

Put Prague

Or Jan Palach

Back together again.
